Frequently asked questions

Practical answers before your first export or import.

Getting started

What does Store Data Manager do?

Export selected Shopify data to a spreadsheet, edit supported fields, then preview and confirm your import. Choose from 19 export areas; 18 support imports. Reporting is export-only. Availability depends on the connected store’s permissions and Shopify features.

Do I need a separate account?

No. Install the app and open it from Shopify Admin → Apps → M.I.A.I Store Data Manager. Approve the requested Shopify permissions and choose a plan through Shopify.

How does the free trial work?

The trial lasts seven days and supports small test jobs of up to 10 records per data area. For an Excel workbook, keep each tab within that allowance. Check Pricing in the app and the Shopify approval screen for the current plan, billing terms and limits before approving a subscription.

Which file formats can I use?

One exported area downloads as CSV. Multiple areas download together as an Excel (.xlsx) workbook with a separate tab for each area. Start with an app export and keep its headings, tab names and Shopify IDs intact.

Changing your data

Does uploading a file change my store?

No. Select Validate and preview to check the file. Shopify changes begin only after you select Confirm changes to Shopify. Review the data areas, rows and validation messages first.

Can I edit every exported column?

No. Exports include identifiers and reference-only fields as well as editable values. Keep IDs unchanged. Reporting cannot be imported. File Source URL, collection Image URL and publication status are references, not ordinary editable fields. See the documentation before changing a new type of data.

How do I change only one field?

Keep the identity columns needed for that area, plus the field you want to change. Remove other optional columns instead of renaming them. Do not assume an empty cell means “leave unchanged”: blank values can clear supported text fields or fail validation.

Can I undo an import?

Supported updates save pre-change values. Open Backups, find the matching data area and time, then select Restore backup and confirm. Check the restored value in Shopify. These are recovery points for supported changes, not a complete store backup. Irreversible operations cannot be undone through a backup.

What if some rows fail?

Read the completion result and Job history. Check the updated, skipped and error counts before retrying. Fix the reported problem and verify the affected records first; do not repeat an operation simply because the page was slow.

Finding help

Why is my order export empty?

Choose Orders for placed orders and Draft orders for drafts. Check your filters and that the connected store contains matching records. Reopen the app through Shopify Admin and approve any requested permission update. If the export still has no records, contact support with the data area and job time.

Why does the app still ask me to choose a plan?

Finish Shopify’s plan approval, return to Shopify Admin and reopen the app. Check Pricing for your current plan. If Shopify shows an approved subscription but the app does not, contact support before approving another charge.

What should I send support?

Send the app name, data area, job time and the exact error message. A screenshot with customer details hidden can help. Do not send passwords, access tokens or an unredacted customer export. Use our support page.

Where can I read about privacy?

Read the privacy policy. Inside the app, Help → Privacy requests shows the connected store’s request queue.
